Work Equip 40 Wheels

What are the right wheels for a wagon? There are some great historic wheel choices for the 510. Watanabe’s and Panasports being two of those. I love the look of Watanabe’s and the fact they are from Japan would be keeping the theme of using Japanese specific modifications. But those wheels lean towards the racing/trans-am vibe not the station wagon vibe. I really liked the classic three piece wheel trend that applied to a couple different tuner/hot-rod trends in Japan. But I didn’t want to use some of the original wheels because they tend to be 13” or 14”, which wouldn’t allow for slightly bigger brakes. I only wanted to go up to 15” wheels, which help from a performance standpoint, but don’t upset the proportions of the car.

Work Wheels created a modern 15 inch set of wheels inspired from the vintage 3-piece style. Work has a line of wheels called Equip, I went with the Equip 40 with a custom offset for fit properly.

Staying with the Japanese them, I picked out Yokohama Advens 195/55R-15. The 55 sidewall gives the tire a nice thickness, avoiding the rubber band style treatment of 45’s. This was to keep the look leaning towards vintage, but with a slightly modern take.
