Full Size Spare Mount
Where to store a spare? Since I upgraded the wheels and brakes, the traditional spare wouldn’t work anymore. Taking inspiration from 80’s SUVs and Baja trucks, I wanted to mount a full size spare in the wagon area. After trying a couple locations, the tire fit really well along the driver side window. This location didn’t take up too much space and had good mounting points.
Using bent steel tubing, we fabricated a mount to the side panel and floor. Three points of contact will hold the wheel in place really well. We welded a plate to the tubing in order to hold the spacer and lug mounts.
The steel wheels from a 1989 Nissan Silvia had the same bolt pattern and matched the Work Wheels: 15”x6”. As a bonus, those steel wheels have a nice pattern and look a little more unique than the traditional steel spare.
I plan on painted the wheel Green Mist Metallic to match the engine bay.
